Fix Ubuntu / Kubuntu 9.10 Screen Brightness Problem

I recently purchased a Lenovo IdeaPad Y450 Laptop, but the screen brightness was not being adjusted when I used the proper key combination (FN+UP/DOWN).

Is that error when you are attempting to edit the settings file?
Are you editing /etc/default/grub as root?
Try in the terminal: sudo nano /etc/default/grub

I tried the same as mentioned. Updated grub. Everything ran successfully. After restarting, still the Fn+UP/DOWN keys is not changing the brightness. Should I replace vendor with some actual hex value?

Are the FN Up & Down keys the designated keys for adjusting screen brightness on your laptop?

The following command will open a window to edit the config file:

    In terminal,
    gksudo gedit /etc/default/grub

..then try following the instructions above.
If that command doesn’t work, you can also edit it in the terminal by:
    sudo nano /etc/default/grub

I was looking to buy a laptop computer desk for the refurbished laptop computer in my office but I’m noticing that I can get significantly better prices online instead of driving down to my local Office Max, in many cases 50%-70% cheaper. The only bad thing is that I have to wait a few days to get it delivered.

I am currently running Ubuntu Lucid Lynx. I have it running on a Lenovo U350. I experienced this issue when i upgraded to 10.04. But there is a fix:

    Open a terminal,
    “sudo nano /etc/default/grub

    Change:

    GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=

So.. I’ve read every post here in hopes that I can get my brightness controls to start working but the only thing is that there is a complete lack of information. I see how to open the grub file in terminal and in gedit as root but after that I don’t really see any real information on what to change. So, if someone could post exactly what the grub file should look like then it would be most appreciated.
